Morbid, or trendy? Collectors are snapping up jewelry from the Victorian era made with human hair. The antique jewelry is an intensely personal memento, which would have been made as a way to show love, or devotion in mourning.
The creepy jewels were very popular starting in the early 1800’s in Europe and in the US as well.
The jewelery is proving popular because of its rarity, and in part because of its morbid attraction of wearing the hair of a now-dead ancestor or stranger.
And believe it or not, there’s even a Victorian Hairwork Society for those fond of these vintage gems.
